How do I choose a Career & College Promise pathway at MCC?

There are 2 different pathways – remember, you are eligible to take ONLY the courses that are listed in your selected pathway(s):

1.       College Transfer Pathway – Requires minimum weighted GPA of 3.0, AND qualifying test scores – you may choose ONLY 1 College Transfer Pathway

o   Associate in Arts

o   Associate in Engineering

o   Associate in Science

2.      Career & Technical Education Pathway – Requires minimum weighted GPA of 3.0 – If you do NOT choose a College Transfer pathway, you may choose 2 CTE pathways.  If you DO choose a College Transfer pathway, you may also choose only 1 CTE pathway.

 Additional information on Pathways

·        College Transfer Pathway

o  All courses in a college transfer pathway will transfer to any of the 16 North Carolina state universities, as well as most of the private colleges, as “general education requirements” – courses that you will need to take as a freshman or sophomore at a university.  For current  Seniors, these courses are weighted on your high school transcript with 1 extra quality point – equivalent to an Honors course.  For current Juniors and beyond, these courses are weighted on your high school transcript with 1 extra quality point – equivalent to an AP course.

·        Career & Technical Education Pathway

o  Courses in a CTE pathway are “Career & Technical” in nature.  These courses typically teach you skills that you will need to have for particular jobs/careers.  The courses listed in these pathways do not receive any additional quality points, with the following exceptions:

§  All courses in the Business Administration Foundations pathway are “college transfer” courses and are weighted on your high school transcript accordingly.

§  Only the following courses in the Criminal Justice Technology-Basic pathway are “college transfer” courses and are weighted on your high school transcript accordingly (the courses NOT listed here are NOT weighted):

·         CJC-111 – Introduction to Criminal Justice

·         CJC-121 – Law Enforcement Operations

·        PSY-150 – General Psychology

FAQs

1.      Do I have to take ALL of the courses listed in a pathway?  NO – you can take as many or few as you want.

2.       Does a pathway “dictate” what I do after I graduate from high school?  NO – you are simply changing your direction, or changing your major.  Worst case scenario – a course you have taken may not be required for your new major.

3.       If my weighted GPA is less than a 3.0, can I take any classes through the CCP program?  POSSIBLY.  There is a waiver committee that will review your individual situation.  Attendance, grades and behavior are all examined.  If approved, you would only be eligible to choose a CTE pathway.

4.      What if I don’t have qualifying test scores for a College Transfer Pathway?  You can take the NC DAP test offered at MCC in the area(s) that you are deficient.  You need to see Mrs. Seeley for a “Test Admit slip”.
